Homemade Calendar
With a digital camera, take 12 pictures of yourself/family/kids, one for each month of the year, and then collate into a calendar with the year's special events marked on it. The idea is to carry the theme of the month into your picture either in dress and/or by posing against related backgrounds. For example, for December you could put on a sweater, gloves and mittens and stand near a christmas tree. For June's pose, wear summer clothes and hold a beach ball. Many drugstores have photo finishing services with calendars that are inexpensive and fast. Or, make your own. You can even add clipart or "photoshop" your own backgrounds into the picture. Be sure to add everyone's birthdays, etc. to the calendar for the recipient. A great gift idea for an aging parent who lives far away (and who may have trouble remembering!)
A variation of this idea would instead be to do a memory calendar by choosing 12 family/friend photos that evoke good times with the recipient as the month's pages.
