This is a super easy gift that I think my mom will love. I'm going to give her hugs. Everyday for the rest of the year I am going to give her a hug.

One year I was trying to think of something homemade to give to my family and decided to compose a song that incorperated a memory  of each member of my family. It made for one of the most memorable Chritmasses I've ever had.

Each year we give our kids restaurant "trump" cards. We make paper cards about the size of a credit card and laminate them. The cards authorize the holder one use to "trump" anyone in the family when we are deciding which restaurant to go to (within reason!). Our kids love the power that gives them to decide the fate of the family when choosing where to eat.  They say that is the best present each year and they are careful about when to use it. We also give each child "time" coupons. One will get Donuts with Dad on any Saturday morning.

Write a personal  letter to your children and grand children letting them know what you think of each of them. Recognize their gifts, talents, and character qualities. Even considering sharing what you see as God's working in their lives. I have done this for 27 years and it has become the highlight of every Christmas as everyone waits to receive their letter from dad and grandpa. After death these letters will still be read over again and again. The influence we can have will always be there in their lives.

Also, a good book we are using to celebrate Advent fully (althought this is not free)-

Everyone I know already has tons of stuff, including stuff they don't need. What I am doing for everyone this year is donating either clothing, household supplies, or my time to a homeless shelter in their honor. And I am writing everyone a letter telling them how much they mean to me and what I did in their name.

 This way, people who really need something can get what they need and my family doesn't have to wait in the customer service department to return something they don't need or want.
